Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 2026
Kael ("we", "us", "our") is an AI-powered habit coaching app. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We aim to be straightforward — no legal jargon, just clarity.
What we collect
Account information
- Email address and display name provided through Apple, Google, or email sign-in (magic link / one-time code)
- Authentication tokens used to keep you signed in
App data you create
- Habits, daily completions, and streaks
- Mood and energy check-ins
- AI coaching conversations and messages
- Onboarding preferences and settings
Technical information
- Usage counters for AI feature rate limiting (e.g. messages per day)
- Basic device and app version information for troubleshooting
How we use your data
- To provide habit tracking, mood logging, and progress visualisation
- To personalise AI coaching, daily nudges, and weekly summaries
- To manage your account, subscription, and usage limits
- To respond to support requests
We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not use your data to train AI models.
Third-party services
Kael relies on a small number of trusted services:
- Supabase — database hosting, authentication, and encrypted storage
- OpenAI — powers AI coaching features (text and voice). When you use AI features, relevant habit and conversation data is sent to OpenAI for processing. See OpenAI's privacy policy
- Stripe — payment processing for web subscriptions. Kael does not store your payment card details
- Apple App Store — in-app purchase billing for iOS subscriptions. Payment is handled by Apple; Kael receives only transaction confirmation
- Apple / Google — authentication providers for sign-in
AI features and your choices
AI coaching is optional. You control how your data is handled:
- Allow AI coaching — Kael sends your habit and conversation data to OpenAI for personalised coaching
- Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) — You provide your own OpenAI API key. Requests go directly through your key, and you control the data relationship with OpenAI
- No AI — All AI features are disabled. Only habit tracking and mood logging are used
You can change your AI preference at any time in Settings.
Bring Your Own Key (BYOK)
If you choose BYOK, your OpenAI API key is encrypted using Supabase Vault (pgsodium) and is never returned in full after submission. API calls are made using your key, and OpenAI's usage policies and billing apply to your account directly.
Data storage and security
Your data is stored in Supabase (PostgreSQL) with row-level security policies that ensure you can only access your own data. Connections are encrypted in transit. BYOK API keys are encrypted at rest using Supabase Vault.
Your rights
You can:
- Access your data through the app at any time
- Export or request a copy of your data by contacting us
- Request deletion of your account and all associated data
- Change your AI data preference or disable AI features
- Remove your BYOK API key at any time in Settings
To make a data request, email kael6688@proton.me. We will respond as promptly as possible.
Policy updates
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you through the app or by email. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
